Bhajan music is closely related to Kirtan, called Bhajan Kirtan. Both styles use music to express chants, mantras and mystical writing to invoke spirtual awakening.
A Bhajan is any type of Indian devotional song commonly sung in the Hindu tradition. It may consist of a simple mantra or may convey a deeper message through mystical poetry. A Bhajan is traditionally lyrical in style, expressing love for the Divine. Bhajans are commonly sung by practitioners of the bhakti yoga movement.
Traditional scriptures, and mystical teachings of saints are often sung as bhajans, kirtan or Sufi qawwali. Guru Nanak, Kabir, Rumi, Meera, Surdas and Tulsidas are notable composers of Bhajan and Kirtan styles.
