In the early 1970′s Yogi Bhajan started the Kundalini Yoga and 3HO movement and along with this arose the Kundalini Yoga Music and the Western Sikh Kirtan genres.
Yogi Bhajan was influenced by Sikh Gurbani Kirtan especially that of Guru Ram Das. Most of the Kundalini chants and mantras are based in the Sikh Music tradition. The music is generally soothing and relaxing and most of the yoga practices are set to recorded Kundalini music, which is now prevalently found under the Spirit Voyage label.
In the 1970-90 ‘s Freedom then Dr. Sarbjit Singh Neel accompanied Yogi Bhajan performing Kirtan in many of his events. You can enjoy some of the Kundalini Music on the CD Longing sung be Freedom and Leela.
